Ymir is not a god in Gylfaginning, but the first giant-shaped life quickened when rime meets heat. Audhumla nourishes him, and Odin, Vili and Ve later kill him; his blood, flesh, bones and skull become sea, earth, mountains and sky. This account treats him as first life and creation-material, not as a catch-all for every later giant story.
