Overview
Svartalfheim functions in the binding story not as ordinary geography but as the hidden craft-source the gods seek when open force fails. Gylfaginning 34 says Allfather sends Skirnir, Freyr's messenger, to the region of the Black Elves so dwarves can make Gleipnir. From here, the episode leaves brute strength and moves into technology, impossible materials and opaque mythic craft.
