Overview
Chalciope is a daughter of Aeetes and a link between the Colchian court and the descendants of Phrixus. In Apollonius and Pseudo-Apollodorus, the Argonauts enter a royal space already shaped by marriage, children and foreign blood. The Golden Fleece is not an ownerless prize; it belongs to a court where family safety matters. Chalciope therefore changes the emotional logic around Medea. Medea’s choice is not only a sudden romantic attachment to Jason, but also touches her sister, nephews and the survival of a household.
