Overview
In Alvissmol, Alvis is not a maker of treasures but a suitor who believes he can claim a bride. He does not recognize Thor on arrival. Instead of driving him away by force, Thor turns consent into an all-night examination. Alvis can answer about the names of earth, sky, sun, moon, and natural things, but the poem places that knowledge inside a delay. At daybreak Thor declares that daylight has caught him, and the story ends without a marriage outcome.
