Overview
Hippolyta’s initial choice is the episode’s essential boundary. After asking why Heracles has come, she agrees to give him the belt of Ares; the conflict does not begin with her refusal. Hera circulates a report that the queen is being abducted, the Amazons approach under arms, and Heracles assumes the promise has been betrayed, killing Hippolyta and taking the belt.
